Hines participated in multiple workouts within the past week, including with Detroit, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Hines spent the past two seasons with the DC Defenders and is coming off his best season, finishing with a team-high 63 total tackles. Many around the Defenders organization were impressed with the major step Hines took in his second spring football season.
Prior to his time in the UFL, Hines entered the 2021 NFL Draft from Texas A&M and later signed as an UDFA with Dallas. Hines remained on the Cowboys practice squad in 2021, and later signed with the Los Angeles Rams the following season, earning a Super Bowl ring with Los Angeles.
Final Thoughts
Anthony Hines signing with the Jets marks the seventh Defenders player this offseason to earn an NFL contract. Hines joins Ty Scott (SEA), Liam Fornadel (NE), Gareon Conley (DAL), Kelvin Harmon (DAL), Malik Fisher (HOU), and Brandon Smith (NYJ).
The Jets continue their haul of UFL players, which has proven to pay off with QB Adrian Martinez and WR Brandon Smith’s performances in week one of preseason.
