10 Colts players to watch in crucial joint practice vs. Bengals

It feels like the Indianapolis Colts just finished up their second preseason game with the Arizona Cardinals, but they are back on the practice field Tuesday after noon for a joint practice hosted by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Considered one of the better teams in the AFC, the Bengals should provide the Colts with a good test on both sides of the football.

In addition to competing against someone else, joint practices can be extremely valuable because key starters are playing–unlike in the preseason–and coaches are willing to show a little bit more from a schematic perspective.

This will be the team’s final practice before they play the Bengals in the preseason finale on Thursday, after which, playing time and roster decisions will begin to be made. For various reasons, here are 10 Colts players to watch for during Tuesday’s joint practice.

With Jaylon Jones not playing against Arizona, the Colts seem to have their starting boundary cornerback duo in Jones and JuJu Brents. However, it’s important that Flowers continues to progress after some rocky play as of late as the potential first backup at that position. Against the Cardinals, Flowers allowed one reception on one target for just 10 yards and wasn’t penalized. Improvement over his performance in Denver and in the joint practices. Flowers will need to build upon that play with consistency.

Indianapolis Colts offensive tackle Matt Goncalves (71) and Indianapolis Colts guard Dalton Tucker (68) warm up during Colts Camp at Grand Park on Sunday, August. 4, 2024, in Westfield Ind.

Undrafted this past April out of Marshall, Tucker has put himself in the thick of the 53-man roster conversation. In both preseason games, he was with the second offense at right guard, and across the two games has allowed one pressure in 65 pass-blocking snaps. There may only be one roster spot along the offensive line available, and competing with Tucker is veteran Danny Pinter, who has played both guard and center with the second offense.
