As conferences expand by adding premier programs (like Texas to the SEC) it will become tougher and tougher for any team to go undefeated.
USA TODAY Sports has projected the record for every Bowl Subdivision conference. There isn’t a single 12-0 projection.
As for the Longhorns, USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg has predicted a 10-2 finish overall and a 6-2 record in the SEC. That would mean Texas beats Michigan in Week 2, but falls twice in conference.
One loss would presumably be to Georgia. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in most major preseason polls and power rankings. UGA is projected to finish the regular season 11-1, 7-1 in conference.
Georgia. Texas. Alabama. LSU. Mississippi. Tennessee. Oklahoma. (We could keep going.) It’s obvious the SEC is the strongest conference in the FBS, a few steps ahead of even the very impressive Big Ten. While the Bulldogs are the preseason favorite, there’s little room separating teams in this top group. – Paul Myerberg

Texas A&M might be pretty good too. The Aggies are a bit of a mystery heading into the season.
