CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The action continues on Friday, August 30 for the first full week of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference football season. After three games on Thursday evening, Duke and ACC-newcomer Stanford will begin their seasons on Friday night.

With Manny Diaz set to take the reins for the first time in Durham on Friday, the Duke Blue Devils will look to build on a strong 8-5 campaign from last season. Maalik Murphy, a Texas transfer, has been named the Blue Devils’ starting quarterback for the opener against Elon. Murphy made two starts with the Longhorns and looks to get Duke off to a hot start to the season. It will be the ninth meeting between the Blue Devils and Phoenix as Duke holds a 7-0-1 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1920. Elon went 6-5 in 2023, including two wins over FCS top five foes in No. 5 Delaware and No. 5 William & Mary.

Stanford will make its ACC football debut on Friday evening when the Cardinal welcomes TCU to Palo Alto. Stanford went 3-9 in its final Pac-12 season before officially joining the ACC on August 2, 2024. The Cardinal turned in a comeback for the ages on the road versus Colorado on October 13, 2023. After trailing 29-0 at halftime, Stanford came roaring back to win 46-43 in double overtime. TCU went 5-7 in 2023, including a 3-6 mark in Big 12 play, after making the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in the 2022 campaign.
