The Cleveland Browns just saw their accounts get hit with a ton of money this morning after they restructured the contract of quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson’s cap hit drops all the way down to $27 million in 2024 after originally sitting above $60 million before the restructure. The Browns love to carry over cap into the next league year, and that is likely their plan for this new amount of money they have fallen into as well. However, they have also given themselves flexibility in case of injuries or other situations that could impact their roster.
This is classic cap manipulation that the Browns have been able to do under general manager Andrew Berry with the permission of owner Jimmy Haslam, who has to front bonus money upfront when these contracts are restructured.
They now sit with over $50 million in cap space, but where does that slot them among the other 32 teams? Here is where the Browns rank in cap space in the context of the rest of the NFL:
All numbers come from Over the Cap.
