For some, the Colorado Buffaloes’ Week 1 victory over Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse North Dakota State may look like an underwhelming 31-26 win. But Thursday’s showing from the Buffs was impressive considering the Bison are one of the best college football teams in the country, FCS or not.
NDSU’s system hasn’t changed much from its championship years; the Bison are well-coached and don’t make many mistakes. I’d even argue this win tells us more about CU’s ability to compete than last year’s season-opening win over TCU.
While many of the faces who contributed to the Buffs’ win looked the same, the overall talent level has been elevated. Still, there’s a lot of work to be done if CU wants to become bowl-eligible.
Here are five players who shined the most under the bright lights of Folsom Field:
Wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter

Finding words to describe Travis Hunter isn’t easy. Hunter was electric, catching seven passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns, including a circus catch while being mugged by the defender on his third score. He also added three tackles on defense and was on the field for all but two snaps.
Wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr.

Jimmy Horn Jr. took full advantage of the space given to him, racing his way to 198 yards on seven catches and a touchdown. Horn had explosive moments last year with CU, but he looked a step quicker early in his second season playing with quarterback Shedeur Sanders. We could be looking at a big year for No. 5.
