McGovern made the switch to center, a position he’s long wanted to play at the pro level after the Bills parted ways with C Mitch Morse in a flurry of payroll-clearing offseason moves.

While there’s been some growing pains in the transition it remains to be seen whether the switch is a successful one or not.

McGovern’s place on the line is secured in a multi-year free agent pact he signed to join the Bills last year, and with David Edwards back on a one-year deal to take his place in the line rotation, giant 2024 draft pick Van Pran Granger out of Atlanta could be Buffalo’s next long term answer at the position depending on how he develops.

Should McGovern struggle and Pray Granger prove ready enough, he could step up as an insurance policy this season. If he develops and McGovern is proficient enough, the position-switch could be temporary and Edwards a placeholder until the rookie is ready and McGovern switches back in the future.

Either way, eyes will be on McGovern this season to see how the handles manning snaps at the center position.
