The Bucs’ offense under Liam Coen will see Chris Godwin return to the slot, which could put him in position to exploit a retooled Commanders defense under Dan Quinn. Godwin last faced a Quinn defense in Tampa Bay’s 2022 wild card loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was targeted 13 times, nine of which came against Dallas’ slot corners Jayron Kearse and Israel Mukuamu.

Washington lists rookie nickel Mike Sainristil as a starter, priming him as Godwin’s chief defender. The former Michigan corner was a defensive utility knife for the Wolverines, but it is rare for rookie defensive backs to not struggle early with the speed and savvy of NFL receivers. Godwin, another year removed from his ACL tear in 2021, might feast on Sainristil’s NFL debut.
