Deshaun Watson stinks, other takeaways from loss vs. Cowboys

Browns Cowboys Deshaun Watson

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) reacts after failing to convert on third down during the first half of an NFL football game against the Dallas Cowboys at Huntington Bank Field, Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The leash cannot be much longer. This team is too talented with star players in their prime. The Browns managed to win six games without Watson a year ago starting backups, rookies, and practice squad players along the way. They can do it again with a former first overall pick who has starting experience in two different stops.

This is the reason that Jameis Winston was brought in. Sure, he was injury insurance, but there is no doubt in my mind that Winston can operate this offense to look like it belongs on a professional football field. It might not be today (even if I think it should), but the hand must be close to the plug on the Deshaun Watson experience.

It hasn’t worked out. Call it like it is and move on. Even if that requires you to hold Watson hostage on the roster until after the 2025 season, tell him not to come to work, and scratch him from every game until then.
