Week 3 Preview: Non-Conference Play Dominates Saturday’s Slate


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the first time in 2024, the entire Atlantic Coast Conference football weekly slate will feature only non-conference games. The Week 3 matchups feature Boston College in a top 25 showdown, Wake Forest hosting a top five opponent, Pitt hosting the “Backyard Brawl” in a heated rivalry game, a renewal of an old ACC rivalry between Virginia and former conference member Maryland and more.

NC State looks to get back in the win column following a neutral-site loss to No. 14 Tennessee at the Duke’s Mayo Classic. The matchup between the Wolfpack and Bulldogs will be just the third in history, with NC State winning both previous matchups. NC State has been incredibly successful at home, winning 24 of its last 28 games inside of Carter-Finley Stadium. Wide receiver KC Concepcion became the second-fastest player in NC State history to reach 1,000 receiving yards, needing just 15 games to do so. Louisiana Tech is off to a 1-0 start this season after going 3-9 in 2023. The Bulldogs’ starting quarterback in 2023, Hank Bachmeier, transferred to Wake Forest for the 2024 campaign.

Florida State is still looking to crack into the win column in 2024, falling in both of its first two contests. The Seminoles have played a pair of ACC games thus far and will open their non-conference slate against Mike Norvell’s former team, the Memphis Tigers. Norvell posted a 38-15 record as the Tigers’ head coach, leading Memphis to four bowl games, including the 2019 Cotton Bowl.
