SEC football power rankings after Week 3 of the season

Week 3 of the 2024 college football season is now in the rearview, and we’re starting to get into the meat of SEC play in the now expanded and divisionless conference.

LSU played the headliner of the day with College GameDay heading to Columbia for its game against South Carolina, and the Tigers are 1-0 to start SEC play after overcoming a 17-0 first-half deficit.

Elsewhere in the league, Georgia survived a major scare against Kentucky, while Texas A&M and coach Mike Elko made a statement win against a floundering Florida team in the Swamp.

That’s only scratching the surface of the SEC results we saw in Week 3. As we prepare for four more conference matchups in Week 4, here’s where the league’s teams stand in our latest SEC power rankings.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-2)

Mississippi State suffered one of the worst losses by an SEC team in recent memory on Saturday when it was embarrassed 41-17 at home by Toledo. The Rockets are a good MAC team, but there’s no excuse for a loss like that. This team can’t stop a nosebleed, but it will be a stoppable force meets moveable object moment when an anemic Florida offense comes to town on Saturday as a slight road favorite. If the Bulldogs can’t win that one, an SEC victory may not be in the cards this season.

Florida Gators (1-2)

After a week of heated debate about the quarterback situation, it ultimately didn’t matter as neither Graham Mertz, who played the bulk of the game, nor DJ Lagway made a considerable impact. The Gators allowed more than 300 yards on the ground and struggled mightily against a backup quarterback making his first start in Marcel Reed.
