While he was solid against the Jaguars in Week 1, linebacker David Long Jr. was one of the Dolphin’s best players against the Bills in Week 2. He ended the game with 11 total tackles, two of which were behind the line of scrimmage.
While he was solid in run defense, his coverage ability had room for improvement. He earned a 70.9 run defense grade and a 71.6 pass rush grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
In coverage, he was credited with allowing four catches on four targets for 53 yards and a touchdown. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith likes to push the ball downfield, but receivers Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are good at winning in the short-to-intermediate range, where Long will see most of his coverage reps.
If he limits Seattle’s use of the middle of the field while still helping against the run, he’s sure to stand out Sunday.
