5 things I think I know after Ohio State football’s win vs. Marshall

Sept. 21, 2024; Columbus, Ohio, USA;
Ohio State Buckeyes defensive tackle Tywone Malone Jr. (95) celebrates after sacking Marshall Thundering Herd quarterback Stone Earle (11) during the first half of an NCAA Division I football game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.

What I think I know

Folks will look at the score of this game and think it was another great performance, but if you watched the game, there are clearly things to clean up. The defense allowed a marathon, 13-play drive to start things off, looked a little sloppy at times, and gave up 264 yards of total offense to a Group of Five team.

It’s not a horrible outing by any means, but this team is still finding an identity on both sides of the ball. It’s good enough in this one, but the execution, communication, and culture needs a little ironing out before that date of October 12 when Ohio State travels to Eugene for what might be the biggest game of the Big Ten season against Oregon.

Back to work. It’s much easier to correct things after a win than during a loss, as they say.
