Notes from another abominable loss for 49ers

Notes from another abominable loss for 49ers

– Third-and-6 to open the third quarter … easy work for the Cardinals. The 49ers continue struggling in coverage in the second level.

– Big run for Conner and Mustapha over ran him to whiff a tackle at the line of scrimmage. Instead of third-and-long it’ll be first-and-goal at the 2. Dreadful showing from San Francisco’s defense in this second half.

– Cardinals not only get a touchdown, but a roughing the passer penalty on Sam Okuayinonu gives the Cardinals a chance to go for two and they get it. What a meltdown from the 49ers defense, and now their offense needs a long drive to give that group some rest.

– Mason to the rescue. A nine-yard catch on first down, then a 20-yard run on second-and-1 in a spot where the 49ers absolutely needed to have it. He’s up to 94 yards on 12 carries.

– Kittle is such a beast. He caught a third-down throw short of the sticks, but he railroaded a defender to get a first down. This is a terrific response for the 49ers offense.

– Disaster. Mason fumbles. Inexcusable mistake by the RB in that spot. One-for-six in the red zone.

– Conner hit his own lineman in the backfield, stopped, and still found room for a first down on a second-and-long. The 49ers defensive line is cooked on a scorching hot day in Santa Clara.

– Charvarius Ward got cooked by WR Michael Wilson, but Murray missed the throw for a would-be touchdown.

– Hey a pass breakup by De’Vondre Campbell! Nice play by the veteran LB on a third-down blitz where the 49ers brought the house.

– Complete on a fourth-and-5 to Harrison with Yiadom in coverage. Good pressure by the 49ers. Disaster again in the secondary. Arizona is en route to a game-winning score.

– The 49ers defense did enough to give their offense some time. There’s 1:37 left after Arizona’s go-ahead field goal.

– Interception for Purdy as he was hit while throwing. Collapse complete. The 49ers are 2-3.
