Week 6 of the 2024 SEC football season provided some much-needed transparency regarding the top teams in the league and the bottom feeders that will likely continue to struggle once SEC play begins. In one of the craziest Saturdays in recent memory, several undefeated SEC programs, including Alabama, fell on the road.
Texas A&M started things off with an early kickoff against the previously 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers, who came in undefeated and as slight two-point underdogs. Facing the Aggies’ ascending defensive line, led by junior defensive end Nic Scourton, Missouri QB Brady Cook struggled to find anything through the air while A&M’s run defense shut down any production on the ground.
Leading 24-0 at the half, Texas A&M kept its foot on the pedal as junior running back Le’Veon Moss ran 75 yards to the house, and the blowout was more than official, ending in a 41-10 romp. For the Aggies, head coach Mike Elko and his team enter the bye week atop the SEC at 3-0, looking to rest and recuperate before taking on the second half of the season. Saturday’s win also saw the return of starting quarterback Conner Weigman, who completed 18/22 for 276 yards.
Around the rest of the conference, Alabama’s stunning loss to Vanderbilt, which defeated a No. 1-ranked team for the first time since 1977, wasn’t the only massive upset. Tennessee looked like a shell of its high-scoring self after losing to Arkansas 19-14 in the final minutes.
With all the chaos, here are the newest SEC Power Rankings after Week 6.
