Led by the running back duo of rookie Jaylen Wright and Raheem Mostert, the Miami Dolphins rushed for 193 yards in their 15-10 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
Wright had his most productive day as a pro, rushing for a career-high 86 yards on 13 carries (6.6 avg.). Running back Raheem Mostert also played a pivotal role in pacing Miami’s rushing attack, tallying 19 carries for 80 yards (4.2 avg.) in his first appearance since Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Dolphins’ front seven wreaked havoc on the Patriots’ offensive line with a total of nine quarterback hits. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler led the charge, totaling three quarterback hits and a sack, while defensive tackle Calais Campbell recorded two quarterback hits. Linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah also made plays in New England’s backfield, posting four tackles and a sack.
Quarterback Tyler Huntley, making his second start with the Dolphins, completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards and an interception. He also ran for seven yards on three carries.
Huntley led Miami to points on the opening possession of the game. An 18-yard pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill and a pair of completions to tight end Jonnu Smith were key to the eight play, 38-yard drive that led to a 54-yard field goal by kicker Jason Sanders – his third field goal of 50-plus yards this season.
Sacks by Ogbah and Sieler forced a Patriots three-and-out, but an interception by cornerback Christian Gonzalez on a Huntley pass intended for Hill set New England up in Miami territory. Four plays later, running back Rhamondre Stevenson followed his blockers for a 33-yard touchdown run that gave the Patriots a 7-3 lead with 3:55 remaining in the first quarter.
Miami’s next possession resulted in a 41-yard missed field goal, but the Dolphins defense forced a three-and-out, making New England punt with 12:54 remaining in the second quarter.
