Sean McDermott & Joe Brady share perspective on final drive; Terrel Bernard makes instant impact in return

Still, when the Bills got the ball on their own three yard line, the agreed strategy between McDermott and Brady was to try to get a first down.

“You want to get a first down, that’s the most important thing,” he said. “Just the intent of what we’re trying to get done there just to be able to get out of the end zone… you can’t have a holding penalty and you don’t want any negative plays to happen. And so, if we’re going to be aggressive there, we got to be smart with the passes that we’re doing.”

Added Brady, “Everything happens fast….you’re going through all the scenarios… We had communication. We were lock-step in what we wanted to do. It didn’t work out in our favor. I wish for a different result, but I’m not going to second-guess.”

Brady later clarified that the ‘second-guessing’ he’s referring to was in relation to the decision to call pass plays in the moment. Brady said it’s okay to reflect back on the call afterwards and learn from mistakes, but to not hesitate about a play call as its happening.

“When I say second guess, I’m not second guessing, in the moment,” Brady said. “So, you always take a step back after a game, no matter what of a call, you’re looking back, ‘hey, you know Is that the right decision? Is that the right call?’ You’re doing that for everything.”
