Wisconsin controlled the game from start to finish. It led 14-0 after the first quarter, 14-0 entering halftime, and 28-0 entering the fourth quarter before the final margin of 42-7. It won with a similar formula to its blowout win over Purdue in Week 6: a strong all-around defensive effort complimented by an explosive offensive attack.
RB Tawee Walker was Wisconsin’s star of the afternoon, finishing with 24 carries, 198 rushing yards and three touchdowns. QB Braedyn Locke finished the game 20 of 28 passing for 240 yards, one touchdown and one interception, plus one rushing touchdown. His afternoon was not perfect, but he continued to show growth as the leader of Wisconsin’s offense.
There was a collective sentiment after Wisconsin’s blowout win over Purdue that the Badgers had to show it again against strong competition. Rutgers isn’t quite the caliber of Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State, or Oregon. But this performance should answer any questions surrounding the Badgers moving through the rest of the season. The team is getting better, and the on-field results are beginning to follow.
