Falcons run game rolling with Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allgeier

Robinson finished with 95 rushing yards, 6.3 yards per carry and two rushing touchdowns (his first multi-rushing touchdown performance of his career). He also added 10 yards as a receiver, finishing with 105 yards from scrimmage. Funnily enough, that’s exactly how many yards Allgeier had on the ground Sunday evening. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry in the game and added a touchdown of his own.

According to the broadcast, this is the first time since Oct. 2016 that the Falcons had two running backs with over 100 yards from scrimmage. The last two to do that for Atlanta? Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman in a memorable win against Denver. Sunday night, it was the one-two punch of Robinson and Allgeier.

“(We) just kept hitting ’em, hitting ’em, hitting ’em,” Allgeier said postgame, “and we just slowly started to wear them down.”

After the game, head coach Raheem Morris said the Falcons’ last two wins showed an offense that can win while relying on two different styles of play. Last Thursday, Cousins’ 509 passing yards put a tally in the Falcons’ win column for an overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This Sunday, the team’s 198 rushing yards did that, too.

“I think we are just taking what (defenses) are giving us,” Morris said.

Regardless of why it happened, the Falcons needed an offensive performance like this one. It was a performance that led to a decisive win, their first of 2024.

“Sometimes,” Cousins said, “you throw to score and you run to win, and being able to run the football makes a difference.”
