The Lions’ offensive line struggled against a formidable Vikings defensive front. Kayode Awosika, filling in for Kevin Zeitler, had a rough start, accumulating three penalties early on.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated issue, as multiple holding calls against the line stymied the offense’s momentum. In addition to the penalties, the line allowed four sacks, two of which resulted in fumbles from Goff. Thankfully, those turnovers didn’t lead to points for the Vikings, but the protection issues were evident. The Vikings threw exotic blitz packages at the Lions, creating constant pressure. While the offensive line did manage to hold their own at times, the overall performance was inconsistent.
Penalties and blown protections undermined key drives, and it’s clear that despite the effort, the Lions can’t afford to keep shooting themselves in the foot with these types of mistakes in crucial matchups. Improved discipline and communication will be key moving forward.
