Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1 SEC) is no longer the last undefeated team in SEC play, as the Aggies laid an egg on the road against what looks like the best 5-3 team in the country in South Carolina after being blown out 44-20 inside Williams-Brice Stadium.
Underwhelming doesn’t truly sum up what we all witnessed in the second half. Both teams were tied 20-20 before the Gamecocks completely dominated A&M’s struggling defense, outscoring the Aggies 24-0 after the half.
While the Aggie offense with QB Marcel Reed couldn’t get anything going in the second half, especially after junior running back Le’Veon Moss left the game with a knee injury, the defense missed 25 tackles on the night, and that gaudy number seemed like it should have been bigger. Combined with the tackling issues, Texas A&M’s once-respected run defense allowed nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Heading into the bye week, head coach Mike Elko and his staff have plenty to work on, before hosting New Mexico State in two weeks time.
Around the rest of the SEC, Ole Miss looked like the team we all expected they would be after destroying Arkansas 63-31, while Georgia and Tennesee escaped close contests to keep pace in the SEC race.
After another entertaining weekend, here are the newest SEC Power Rankings after Week 10.
