The Auburn Tigers lost another disappointing contest on Saturday, this time at home against the previously putrid Vanderbilt Commodores, 17-10.
A week after its best offensive showing of the campaign, Auburn’s offense went dormant in its return to the Plains, while the defense put together a solid, but not quite good enough, effort against Tigers nemesis Diego Pavia. The loss dropped Hugh Freeze’s squad to (3-6) on the season, and the Tigers will need to win out in order to avoid yet another losing season.
While most of the afternoon was discouraging, Auburn did have a few bright spots surrounding the loss. Here are the winners and losers from Auburn’s sixth loss of the season.

Diego Pavia will officially end his college career undefeated against Hugh Freeze. Saturday’s victory lifted the senior quarterback to a (3-0) all-time record against Auburn’s head coach. While Pavia wasn’t particularly impressive in the win, he has now accumulated just over 400 total yards and 5 touchdowns in his last two games against the Tigers at Jordan Hare Stadium.

There is no denying Hugh Freeze’s ability as an elite-level recruiter, but his in-game coaching competence has certainly come into question. Freeze is now just (9-13) over his first two season’s as Auburn’s leading man. Unless his Tigers can somehow win three straight over Louisiana Monroe, Texas A&M, and Alabama, Freeze will have yet to finish with a winning season during his time on the Plains. Freeze’s play calling was again suspect in the latest loss, particularly after star running back Jarquez Hunter ran the ball just twice in the second half.
