UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State junior quarterback Drew Allar was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, while junior defensive end Abdul Carter was selected a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award on Tuesday. Carter added two weekly national honors, earning Bednarik Award Player of the Week and Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week.
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually, by the Maxwell Football Club, to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is the fourth-oldest award in college football and is presented by David McDermott Lexus of New Haven.
