Last year, Florida’s offense was efficient but lacked explosiveness. QB Graham Mertz completed passes at a high rate and didn’t turn the ball over, but UF missed the big plays. Mertz was providing more of the same this year before an injury ended his year, forcing Florida to turn to true freshman QB DJ Lagway.

Lagway injected big play potential into the offense and Florida now sits top 20 in explosive play rate.

21.1% of Lagway’s attempts have 20+ air yards or more, the highest rate in the SEC. He averages 27.9 yards per attempt on those throws, significantly more than any other QB in the conference. He’ll take the shots and make the most of them.

Lagway’s status remains questionable, but if he plays, Florida has the ammo to put up points on a struggling LSU defense.
