CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami quarterback Cam Ward was named one of five finalists for the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc., along with presenting sponsor A. O. Smith Corporation announced today.
The candidates are selected by the distinguished Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, and former players. The award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. Candidates are chosen based on player performance both on and off the field.
Ward, a semifinalist for the 2024 Maxwell Award, the 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and the 2024 Walter Camp Player of Year, has led Miami to an impressive 9-1 record, boasting the nation’s top offense. As a transfer, he currently leads the country with 32 touchdown passes and 3,494 passing yards, accounting for 222 total points and achieving a Total QBR of 89.6. Ward ranks second nationally in total offense with an average of 367.6 yards per game, passing yards per game with 349.4, and points responsible for per game at 22.2. Additionally, he is fourth in FBS for passing efficiency, with a rating of 174.0. His 32 touchdown passes are a new single-season record for Miami.
