If Lewis’ pick-six was the play of the game, Eli Bowen’s interception on Alabama’s first drive of the second half is right there with it. Bowen worked around a defender and had the wide receiver screen completely covered. After the interception, he took it into the red zone, and a few plays later, the Sooners were up by 14.
The secondary needed to have a great game to keep Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard in check, and they did. Williams had just two receptions on seven targets. Oklahoma allowed a couple of pass plays of 30 or more yards, but that was it.
Generally, Jalen Milroe didn’t have anywhere to go with the football and, because of the pass rush, didn’t have much time to figure it out.
In addition to Bowen’s big game, Kani Walker and Dez Malone were really good in coverage and did a great job on Milroe when he tried to break wide in the running game.
Safeties Billy Bowman and Robert Spears-Jennings had fantastic performances as well. Bowman had five total tackles and a pass breakup and Spears-Jennings had three total tackles on the evening.
The Sooners secondary played their best game of the season by far.
