Big 12 football bowl game projections entering final week

While the likes of Colorado, Arizona State, BYU and Iowa State have all enjoyed stellar seasons, the Big 12 isn’t in a great spot regarding the newly expanded College Football Playoff. Unless something dramatic happens, the conference’s champion game winner will likely become the only Big 12 squad headed to the 12-team CFP.

Still, nine of the Big 12’s 16 teams have reached bowl eligibility entering the final week of the regular season. Kansas and Cincinnati are also within reach as they each have five wins with one game remaining.

Below is a Big 12 look at USA TODAY Sports’ updated college football bowl game projections:

Arizona State Sun Devils

Syndication: Arizona Republic

Projection: Fiesta Bowl (CFP Quarterfinals) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

All of a sudden, the Cam Skattebo-led Sun Devils are projected to reach the College Football Playoff. Arizona State has the easiest route to clinching a Big 12 championship game berth in Week 14.

West Virginia Mountaineers

Projection: First Responder Bowl vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers became bowl-eligible this past weekend after beating UCF.

Baylor Bears

Projection: Texas Bowl vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

Because they’re not in the Big 12 championship game picture, Baylor’s current five-game winning streak hasn’t received much attention. The Bears will host Kansas in Week 14.

Iowa State Cyclones

Projection: Alamo Bowl vs. Washington State Cougars

Although Iowa State is still alive in the Big 12 title race and therefore the College Football Playoff, USA TODAY Sports predicts the Cyclones will face Washington State in the Alamo Bowl.
