Three stats to know, and more, as the Jets come off their bye week and head into their 12th game of the season vs. Seattle at MetLife Stadium on Sunday:
Laying Down the (Kin)Law
DL Javon Kinlaw has made his presence felt inside as well as outside the Jets’ locker room in his first season wearing green and white. Inside, he’s impressed not only his defensive mates but the big guy on the other side of the ball. “Every week, Javon brings it,” QB Aaron Rodgers has said. “He’s a mountain of a man and a good friend of mine and a great player.”
Outside, Kinlaw is on target to set personal bests in his fifth NFL season for most defensive snaps (442 with 6 games to go compared to 546 as a 49ers rookie in 2020), total tackles (32 this year, 33 in ’20) and sacks (2.5 this season, 3.5 last season).
The latest sack he registered, though, gave him three statistical items that he had never acquired before. When the big right paw of Kinlaw swatted the ball out of Anthony Richardson’s grasp in the third quarter against Indianapolis, it not only gave him his first pro stripsack but also his first forced fumble of any kind and, when he lugged the loose ball 4 yards to the Colts 25, his first fumble recovery.
Streaks in the Key of G
Some, but not all, of Garrett Wilson’s pass-catching streaks ended with his four receptions for 18 yards vs. Indy. Most impressive, and most unfortunate, was the conclusion of his 8 consecutive games with 5-plus catches. Yet we have no doubt G will start up another such streak to try to take down the franchise record holder, Laveranues Coles, who had 5-plus in the last 13 games of the first Jets stay of his career in 2002.
Wilson also didn’t move the sticks once vs. the Colts, ending a streak of 17 games in which he recorded at least one receiving first down. He also had 20 straight games with a first down from midway through his ’22 rookie season into ’23.
But some streaks keep rolling…
