Only one week remains in the 2024 college football regular season, then for most of the programs in the country, their seasons will be over, and the long wait until spring ball will begin. But that will not be the case for the Nebraska Cornhuskers who ended their eight-year bowl drought over the weekend with a dominant victory over the Wisconsin Badgers.
But how did the Cornhuskers’ result and the rest of the scores from around the Big Ten affect this week’s ESPN Football Power Index?
For the Cornhuskers, the win over Wisconsin gave them a seven-spot boost in the FPI, the second-biggest boost in the conference entering week 14. The Huskers jumped from No. 51 to No. 44 with the victory. Only the Michigan Wolverines, coming off a blowout win over Northwestern, saw a bigger jump, going from No. 43 to No. 34 this week.
The only other notable riser this week is the Illinois Fighting Illini who improved by five spots following a close road win against Rutgers. The Fighting Illini went from No. 52 to No. 47 this week.
There were two major losers in this week’s FPI changes within the conference. The biggest loser is the Northwestern Wildcats who after their loss to Michigan fell 11 spots from No. 77 to No. 88. Wisconsin also tumbled quite a bit, dropping seven spots from No. 34 to No. 41. The Badgers will hope to reach bowl eligibility this weekend when they face the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
