Latest news on Bucs safety

Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. has been ruled out with a knee injury in Tampa Bay’s Week 14 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Winfield Jr. appears to have sustained the injury during the Raiders’ first scoring drive in the second quarter.

Winfield Jr. has not been as effective this season after his stellar All-Pro 2023 campaign. Nonetheless, the Bucs have little room for error with their decimated secondary. His absence will only put more pressure on a Bucs defense that is struggling to contain a Raiders offense that has gone on the attack in the second quarter.

Bucs’ safety depth chart

The Bucs have next to no depth at safety. Jordan Whitehead went on injured reserve last week, and Mike Edwards was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Christian Izien and Kaevon Merriweather, who rejoined the team this week after he was released in November, are the only healthy safeties on the roster.
