Allowing 32 points allowed is inexcusable for the New York Jets. In any game.
And that’s what happened in Week 14 as the Jets (3-10) were officially knocked out of postseason contention following a 32-26 loss to the Miami Dolphins (6-7) in overtime.
However, the Dolphins had a whopping 66 total plays and 38:58 minutes of possession time to attack a battered Jets defense on Sunday:

Jets defensive back Sauce Gardner did not play due to a hamstring injury, and as a result, Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a field day. Tagovailoa finished with a passer rating of 104.1, 331 yards in the air, with 33 completions, and two touchdowns, including the game-winning strike:

A closer analysis shows that New York’s defense stopped the Dolphins on eight of their nine third-down conversion attempts.
Additionally, the Jets only allowed Miami 44 rushing yards on 19 attempts. That’s an impressive total for New York’s defense: A 2.3 yards-per-carry average.
These stats, alongside Tagovailoa’s 14 incompletions, convey that the Dolphins offense didn’t totally dominate the Jets.
Instead, it further explains how defensive fatigue has plagued the Gang Green all season long. The Jets rank No. 26 in the NFL in time of possession with an average of 29:11 minutes per game. This inability to sustain offensive drives has left their defense out to dry.
And yet, some continue to aimlessly scorn a defensive unit that hasn’t performed bad this season at all.
