MADISON, Wis. – A college football coaching veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Jeff Grimes has been named the Badgers’ Offensive Coordinator, as announced by head coach Luke Fickell on Tuesday.
Grimes joins the Wisconsin staff after stops directing offenses at Kansas (2023), Baylor (2020-22) and BYU (2018-20). He has established himself as one of the top offensive coaches in the country, being named a finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, awarded to the nation’s top assistant coach, in 2020 and 2021.
“We’re excited to welcome Coach Grimes to our staff,” said head coach Luke Fickell. “He has experience at the highest level of college football and a proven record of success everywhere he’s been. He has shown the ability to evaluate athletes and build a scheme around the strengths of his personnel. He’ll bring a multiplicity of offense that balances a hard-nosed run game with a vertical passing attack. I’m looking forward to working with him and his impact on our young men.”
This season at Kansas, Grimes led an offense that ranked 12th in the nation with 212.1 rushing yards per game and a 5.5 average per carry. The Kansas offense also ranked 7th nationally with a 14.2 yards per completion clip. The Jayhawks averaged 29.7 points and 420.1 yards per game while ranking third in the FBS on third down, converting 51.0%.
“My family and I are grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Wisconsin football program,” said Grimes. “Having been around college football for more than 30 years, I have long admired the history and tradition at Wisconsin, and in particular the blue-collar, tough foundation that has led them to sustained success. I’m excited to blend that physical approach with an offense that attacks in a variety of ways.
