Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver is in his first year after spending time in Baltimore under Mike Macdonald. After his performance last year, Macdonald landed the Seattle Seahawks head coaching job.
Everybody in the NFL wanted a slice of the Ravens’ defensive philosophy. Zach Orr replaced Macdonald in Baltimore, Weaver went to Miami, and Dennard Wilson is in Tennessee. Jesse Minter, who coached with Macdonald while the two were at Michigan, is leading the Chargers stout defense.
Macdonald’s defense, which has spread like wildfire around the league, is built on post-snap confusion. Miami is no different, relying on simulated pressures, which, instead of four defensive linemen rushing the passer, one will drop back and a linebacker or safety will rush the quarterback.
Nice double A-gap simulated pressure by the Dolphins vs. the Patriots.
2nd man in acts as a pick on the Center, pinning the hip & then ricocheting to the QB.
The COP (contain path) from 92 allows him to gain the advantage with the LG works to intercept the trailing blitzer.

The simulated pressures gave Houston lots of trouble last year against Baltimore. The Texans’ offensive line slides their protection a lot, and choosing to slide toward the defensive lineman dropping out may lead to an opening on the backside for a rusher from the second or third level.
