Stats, standouts, takeaways from Miami’s loss

A week ago, the Miami Dolphins pulled off some late game heroics to force overtime and eventually beat the New York Jets. They couldn’t recreate that effort in Week 15 against the Houston Texans.

The Texans forced four turnovers, including two interceptions from cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. in the fourth quarter, that eliminated any hope of a comeback.

Miami’s defense put together one of its best performances of the season, holding the Texans to only 181 yards of total offense. But the quartet of Tua Tagovailoa turnovers were too much to overcome and the Dolphins only scored one touchdown on the day.

With the loss, Miami is now 6-8 on the year and would need a miracle to reach the postseason. Here’s how Miami’s loss in Week 15 went down:

The Dolphins defense bounced back from a couple poor performances with an impressive showing and it was Brooks leading the way. The linebacker led his team in tackles with eight, recorded the Dolphins’ first takeaway in three games by snaring a fumble, and created a Zach Sieler sack by causing chaos on a blitz.

On a day when the Texans couldn’t find any running room and struggled to put together sustained drives, it’s Brooks who deserves the most credit for the Dolphins’ strong defensive outing.

Nico Collins may have snagged a couple of touchdowns, but he and the rest of the Texans offense were not the story of the day. The Dolphins inability to do much against the Houston defense proved to be the biggest issue.

Instead, it was Stingley, who spent most of his day stifling Tyreek Hill, who proved to be the biggest thorn in the Dolphins’ side. Hill was held to only two receptions for 36 yards. The last two passes of the day that went his direction were both picked off by Stingley.
