Wisconsin landed a commitment from top transfer tight end Tanner Koziol on Saturday.
Koziol is the Badgers’ second transfer addition of the cycle, joining Louisville edge rusher Mason Reiger. Each is an accomplished veteran at a key position of need. Koziol specifically fills a void at tight end that the program has been working to fill since Jake Ferguson’s departure after the 2021 season.

Koziol led Ball State in receiving in 2024, totaling 94 receptions, 839 yards and eight touchdowns. His career numbers as a multiyear starter at the position include 163 catches, 1,507 yards and 18 total scores. Upon his commitment, the NFL hopeful is immediately Wisconsin’s top receiving threat and one of its best players on offense.
As the Badgers continue their work in the transfer portal, working to reshape the offense to new coordinator Jeff Grimes’ scheme, here is an updated look at where the two-deep depth chart stands.
Quarterback

Starter: Transfer (TBD)
Backup: Transfer OR Mabrey Mettauer
Many of these positions are subject to change as the Badgers continue their work in the portal. Quarterback is one position we can definitively list transfer in the starting slot and possibly also as the backup. Wisconsin is in strong pursuit of several top transfer quarterbacks, headlined by Maryland’s Billy Edwards Jr. and Cal’s Fernando Mendoza.
Redshirt freshman Mabrey Mettauer and incoming freshmen Landyn Locke and Carter Smith are the only signal-callers on the roster. That will not be the case entering fall camp. Wisconsin will exit the offseason with an entirely new quarterback room, headlined by a veteran starter.
