Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Dante Dowdell enters transfer portal

Nebraska football running back Dante Dowdell took the steps to enter the transfer portal on Monday evening. On3’s Steve Wilfong confirmed the news.

Dowdell transferred to Lincoln from the Oregon Ducks in January. He was able to cement himself as a goal line back for the Huskers.

All told, he recorded 143 carries for 614 yards and 12 touchdowns. His biggest game of the season came against the Wisconsin Badgers in November. He had three touchdowns on the afternoon, as he was able to fill the role of red zone running back.

Dowdell was used sparingly at Oregon. He had 17 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown in six games with the Ducks in 2023.

This move is a hit to the depth of the Huskers running back room for now. There are names in the transfer portal at the running back position that the Huskers can go after. On top of this, offensive coordinator Dana Holgerson is known to run a pass-friendly system.
