The DC Defenders continue to make moves in UFL free agency. According to Michael Del Negro, the Defenders have brought back DL Fadol Brown – while dropping DB Anthoula Kelly off of the roster.
News: The @XFLDefenders have re-signed DL Fadol Brown, per @uflanalyst. Brown spent the 2023 #XFL season in DC, posting 19 tackles & 2.5 sacks.
DC also released DB Anthoula Kelly Jr., who’s been a starter in their secondary for the past two seasons.

DL Fadol Brown
Interestingly enough, the DC Defenders have opted to bring back Fadol Brown to the defensive line. Brown was with DC back in 2023, starting in one of 10 games played. He was an important rotational piece, posting 19 tackles and 2.5 sacks that season (298 snaps).
Brown entered UFL Training Camp with DC, but was released in early March and has since remained a free agent. That said, with some of the losses the Defenders have suffered defensively, it appears that they’re bringing back a familiar face to strengthen the interior line play.
Fadol has legitimate NFL experience, playing in 16 games and totaling 20 tackles with the Raiders and Packers. Brown played his college football at FIU and Mississippi, with 117 tackles and 5.5 sacks to his name across his collegiate career.
DB Anthoula Kelly Released
In 2024, DC’s defense wasn’t the same unit that we saw in 2023. There wasn’t the same level of cohesiveness – or the quality of play – that was present during their Championship run. The Defenders struggled to get stops late, which led to multiple losses that ultimately kept them from making the playoffs in the UFL.
Anthoula Kelly has been a part of that defense for the last two years. Across that span, he’s posted 65 tackles, a sack, an interception, and five PBU’s.
