The Memphis Showboats have finally made a move in their backfield, signing free agent DeAndre Torrey to the roster. Up until this point, Memphis has been without any running backs – as they’ve elected not to re-sign Darius Victor or Cyrus Habibi-Likio – and released Titus Swen last month.

Torrey is no stranger to the spring football scene. He made his professional debut in the USFL, with the Michigan Panthers back in 2022. Torrey only saw action in one game, with two carries for three yards. However, he managed to earn himself an NFL opportunity with the Philadelphia Eagles – spending the 2022 preseason there.

Since then, DeAndre has bounced around between alt-league rosters. He played for the Vegas Vipers in the XFL, posting 48 rushing yards and a touchdown that season. He was a major contributor on special teams, though, with 19 kick returns for 401 yards.
Torrey wasn’t picked up during the USFL-XFL merger process, so he went up north to the CFL, with Toronto. DeAndre didn’t see any action there, and was released in May.
