Firing a coach after one losing season is bad for business. It’s even worse considering its a first-year coach who was thrown into an impossible situation with one of the worst rosters in the league.

What promising coach would want to come to New England if the predecessor is axed after one failed season? The only other move that would work would be bringing in Mike Vrabel because of his previous ties to the team. He’s also an experienced coach who has proven he can win and lead a team to the playoffs.

But going back on Mayo after only one season would still be a terrible look for the Patriots and owner Robert Kraft. They went into this thing knowing it was going to be a full-on rebuild that would take time before it was up and going. You don’t pull the parachute cord as soon as you jump out of the plane.

That’s likely why previous reports have the Patriots sticking it out with Mayo for at least another year. Hopefully, things will improve with a better roster and help around Drake Maye.

People have seemingly forgotten that the team only won four games under Bill Belichick, the greatest coach in NFL history, last season. The roster needs a serious talent makeover, and they might finally get it thanks to the promising play at the quarterback position. Maye is the kind of quarterback who can draw top free agents.
