In a quarterback-driven league, Cowboys backup signal caller Cooper Rush has given Dallas every reason to keep him as their reserve QB for a long time. In the last five weeks, Rush beat Commanders quarterback and likely Offensive Rookie of the Year QB Jayden Daniels, in Washington.
He also beat quarterback Bryce Young, who was taken first overall by the Panthers in the 2023 NFL draft. Rush almost outdueled QB Joe Burrow in their second head-to-head matchup evening their overall series.

Beating Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, who signed a massive three-year, $100 million deal just before the season shows how much of a value Rush is to Dallas. Rush has a cap hit of $2.8 million this season and has a carer earning of just under $9 million since entering the league in 2017.
The Cowboys know they have a guy who can provide relief appearances for starting QB Dak Prescott and can efficiently operate the offense.
Rush went 26 of 35 for 292 yards with a touchdown against Tampa Bay, improving his starting record to 9-4. Rush filled in for an injured Prescott in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, going 5-1 in the process. The undervalued Rush has proven that aesthetics are overrated, and he can keep Dallas afloat if needed.
