The Colorado Buffaloes only made two bowl games during their time in the Pac-12 Conference, playing in the Alamo Bowl in 2016 and 2020. Colorado may have moved onto the Big 12, but it has been chosen as the Pac-12 representative in this year’s Alamo Bowl. The Buffs will take on the BYU Cougars on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT (ABC).
One month ago, this matchup looked like it could have been the Big 12 title game, as both CU and BYU controlled their own destinies. However, both teams stumbled late in the regular season. Now, the Cougars and Buffaloes will fight for a win in the Alamo Bowl.
Here are 10 players to watch in the 2024 Alamo Bowl:
QB Jake Retzlaff

Jake Retzlaff had a career year in his second season with the Cougars. The dual-threat talent has thrown for 2,796 yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for 388 yards and adding another six scores on the ground. The Buffs’ defense has been up-and-down defending quarterbacks who can use their legs, so they’ll need to be at their best on Saturday.
WR/CB Travis Hunter

What will the 2024 Heisman winner do in his final game wearing the black and gold? Hunter has had a stellar season and will be playing in his first bowl game as a Buff. Expect Hunter to top the 100-snap mark again and play his brand of dominant football on both sides of the ball.

BYU will be down its No. 2 wide receiver, Darius Lassiter, in the first half due to an ejection in the Cougars’ regular season finale, so Chase Roberts has to pick up the slack. The Cougars’ No. 1 pass catcher rolled up 843 receiving yards and four touchdowns during the regular season.
