Having no preference for being the No. 3 or 4 seed, the Los Angeles Rams went into Week 18 with many of their starters on the bench, resting before the playoffs begin. They trotted out an offense full of backups, led by Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback.
The Seattle Seahawks went full-bore against the Rams in an attempt to end the season with a win. Garoppolo and the Rams made things interesting but they ultimately came up short in a 30-25 loss, their first defeat in the last six games.
It didn’t impact Los Angeles significantly, but the loss did land the Rams a date with the Lions or Vikings in the wild-card round instead of against the Commanders.
Here are the studs and duds from Sunday’s loss to Seattle.
Stud: Jordan Whittington
Whittington seems to make good things happen every time he touches the ball. Whether it’s on kick returns, jet sweeps or as a receiver, he makes plays when the ball is in his hands. That was once again the case on Sunday as he totaled 98 yards from scrimmage on just five touches and had kick returns of 37 yards and 43 yards in the loss. He’s deserving of a bigger role in the playoffs.
Stud: Joshua Karty
What a perfect confidence-building game it was for Karty on Sunday. He made all four of his field goal attempts, looking comfortable on each and every one of them. Two were from 37 and 38 yards, and the other two were from 57 and 58 yards – both of which were longer than any other kicks he’s made this season.
The Rams are going to need Karty in the playoffs and this was an ideal performance from the rookie.
Stud: Demarcus Robinson
Robinson had been quiet for several weeks leading up to this game but with Garoppolo at quarterback, he had one of his better games of the season. He caught three passes for 72 yards against the Seahawks, with receptions of 31 yards, 23 yards and 18 yards. It seemed like he was generating separation pretty consistently, which has to give him confidence heading into the postseason.
Stud: Tyler Higbee
Higbee had his best game of the season and it’s clear Sean McVay wanted to get him going before the playoffs start. He caught five of seven targets for 46 yards and a touchdown, putting together arguably the most productive game of the year by any Rams tight end. Though he doesn’t look particularly explosive anymore, he’s still…
