The Oklahoma Sooners have been looking for some veterans to add to their young tight end room in the transfer portal. On Wednesday evening, the Sooners earned a commitment from Louisiana Tech transfer tight end John Locke.
Locke comes to Oklahoma as a preferred walk-on, according to OUInsider’s Parker Thune. Locked was originally a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He spent three seasons with Lousiana Tech. In his three seasons in Ruston, Locke recorded just three receptions for six yards and a touchdown in 26 games for the Bulldogs.
Tight end is a position that the Oklahoma Sooners need to find more production in 2025 as they replace Bauer Sharp and Jake Roberts. Locke doesn’t have much production for Oklahoma to lean on, but he’s contributed on special teams during his career.
Locke has 216 special teams snaps during his career, according to Pro Football Focus. That’s compared to just 189 offensive snaps during his collegiate career.
He joins transfer tight ends Carson Kent and Will Huggins to go along with one-time four-star prospects Kaden Helms and Davon Mitchell, the athletic Kade McIntyre, and incoming freshman Trynae Washington.
