On Wednesday, the DC Defenders made a roster move of their own, re-signing DB Isaiah Johnson to the roster. Isaiah spent the last two seasons in DC, and now returns for a third straight stint in Gregg Williams’ defense.

Johnson is a solid retention for this defensive unit. He played in only one game in 2023, starting in a week ten win over the San Antonio Brahmas, tallying six tackles in that matchup.
In 2024, Isaiah saw a larger role, despite dealing with some injuries that sidelined him for a bit. Isaiah played in six games this UFL season, posting 27 tackles, a sack, and two PBU’s. Johnson had an excellent 80.3 Defensive Grade via PFF, allowing just 6.4 yards per reception.
Johnson played his college football at Houston, with 115 tackles and four interceptions to his name. He also spent a few years with the Raiders in the NFL, totaling 15 tackles across that span.

Now, Isaiah returns to DC as GM Von Hutchins looks to retool this secondary unit. There’s quite a few pieces who won’t be returning, so seeing Johnson back in action is good news for multiple reasons. He’s already familiar with the schemes that DC runs – and with some new faces joining the team this offseason, Isaiah could be in a position to see more of a “leader” role as he’s been in DC for two years already.
