The Minnesota Vikings went 14-3 in 2024, largely thanks to the free agents they signed last off-season. They will likely be big spenders again, with a projected $75 million of cap space this upcoming off-season.
On Tuesday, Pro Football Focus looked ahead and projected one potential free agent that every team should pursue. It seems as though PFF is in lockstep with fans as to where the Vikings should be spending their money.
PFF penciled Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams as the Vikings’ target. The Lousiana Tech prospect was a third-round pick (73rd overall) in the 2021 NFL draft. He has played 67 of 68 possible regular-season games, starting 17. Williams has also played in all five Eagles playoff games since 2021, starting one.
Here is what PFF said about the potential signing:
With $75 million to spend this offseason, Minnesota should go big along its defensive interior. Williams turned in a career season in 2024, producing 40 pressures, a 90.4 PFF pass-rush grade and a 17.7% pass-rush win rate — good for third among qualifying defensive linemen. Adding Williams to a defensive line with Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner is nightmare fuel for opposing offensive coordinators.
This is the kind of signing the Vikings have made since Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took over as GM in 2022. Williams will be 26 when the 2025 season begins, and although he won’t be cheap, he won’t break the bank.
The Vikings’ defense has been great this season, but they have lacked a consistent pass rush from the interior defensive line. Jerry Tillery and Harrison Phillips have been great against the run in 2024, but together, they only have 29 total pressures.
Williams is PFF’s No. 32-ranked player and their No. 2-ranked interior defensive lineman.
