The 2024 season for the Oklahoma Sooners came to an end back in December. Brent Venables and his OU coaching staff are well into the offseason and preparing for a big season in 2025.
However, for the former Sooners playing at the next level, the regular season has just wrapped up and the postseason is now approaching for so many of them. The NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend is Saturday, Sunday and Monday, where six games will decide who moves on to the divisional round. Oklahoma has at least one former player in every game this weekend.
We’ve decided to choose the best former Sooner in the NFL for each of the six games, as the stars look to advance in the playoffs. The top seeds in the AFC and NFC both have bye weeks this week. While the NFC’s Detroit Lions don’t currently have any former OU players on the roster, the AFC’s Kansas City Chiefs are loaded with them. Marquise Brown, Creed Humphrey, McKade Mettauer, Wanya Morris, Samaje Perine and James Winchester are all trying to get KC their third ring in a row in Super Bowl LIX.
While those two teams are off, here is the best former Oklahoma player in each NFL playoff game on Wild Card Weekend.

The Pick: Joe Mixon, Texans RB
In his first season with the Houston Texans, running back Joe Mixon had an excellent season. He ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns on 245 carries and helped the Texans win the AFC South for the second straight year.
Houston takes on the Chargers, who are enjoying a bounce-back season behind Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles. Former OU defensive back Tony Jefferson will be looking to help the Chargers slow down Mixon and the Texans in the opening game of the weekend.
