Auburn legends Gregg Carr, Larry Blakeney elected to CFB Hall of Fame

The College Football Hall of Fame’s 2025 class has been revealed, and two Auburn football legends have been selected.

Former Auburn stars Gregg Carr and Larry Blakeney have been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, bringing Auburn’s total number of players in the hall to 14.

Carr played linebacker for Auburn from 1981-84, where he logged 289 solo tackles and nine sacks. He earned three All-SEC honors, was an academic All-SEC member in all four seasons at Auburn, and was elected to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. After spending four seasons in the NFL, Carr retired from football to pursue a career in the medical field. He now works as an orthopedic surgeon in Birmingham.

Blakeney played quarterback for the Tigers from 1966-69 but is known more for his career as the head coach of the Troy Trojans. Blakeney won 178 games from 1991-2014 as the head coach of the Trojans. He led the Trojans to three Southland Conference championships and five Sun Belt Conference championships. Several of his personal accolades include Coach of the Year in both Southland and Sun Belt Conferences, two-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year, and is a member of the Alabama Sports, Wiregrass Sports, and Troy Sports Hall of Fames.

Blakeney and Carr join a long list of Auburn legends currently enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Several members include coaches John Heisman, Mike Donahue, Ralph “Shug” Jordan, and former Tiger Heisman Trophy winners such as Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan.
