Know Your Foe: Kansas City Chiefs | Divisional Round

On Saturday, for the sixth time in the history of the franchise, the Houston Texans will go on the road for an AFC Divisional Playoff matchup.

The previous five times went the way of the home team. Last year in this same situation, the Texans went to Baltimore and had the game tied at 10 at halftime, but Lamar Jackson made one too many plays in the second half and the wonderful 2023 season ended at M&T Bank Stadium, a place the Texans have never won.

This year, it’s another rematch with the real thorn in the side…to the entire NFL, honestly – the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here’s how good the Chiefs have been since Patrick Mahomes took over in 2018.

  • 6-0 in Divisional Round playoff games, 5-0 at home.
  • One of those famously against the Texans in 2019 after the Texans had a…lead, let’s leave it at that.
  • Six straight AFC Championship game appearances
  • Four AFC Championship game wins and four out of the last five.

It’s little to no surprise that the Texans are 8-point underdogs in this situation. The Chiefs have rested as many top stars as possible since the Christmas game against Pittsburgh. Star DT Chris Jones hasn’t played since late in the third quarter against the Texans on December 21st. The Chiefs are rested for sure, but here’s hoping the rust has set in.

We know this bunch well. Mahomes. Kelce. Jones. J-Reid. Andy Reid. Spags. Everyone in the league knows them and no one can beat them. But, on this day, in their COLD house, it’s time for the Texans to bring their A-game, and then some, to knock off the un-knock-off-ables (I made that word up, sorry).

As such, let’s get to Know the Texans’ Foe (again):the 2x defending World Champion, #1 seed in the AFC, the 15-2 Kansas City Chiefs.

2024 Kansas City Chiefs Schedule (15-2)

Week 1 – W Baltimore Ravens 27-20

Week 2 – W Cincinnati Bengals 26-25

Week 3 – W @ Atlanta Falcons 22-17
