Head coach Brian Kelly completed his third season at LSU with a win over Baylor in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl, cementing a 9-4 record in 2024-25.
Although a regression from two straight seasons with 10 wins, Kelly resurrected a Tigers program that went 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the SEC in 2021. The season marked the end of former head coach Ed Orgeron’s time, two years removed from winning the National Championship.
Where does Kelly rank in wins compared to Orgeron and other LSU football coaches?
The nine wins in his third season leading the Purple and Gold moved Kelly to ninth on the all-time wins list. He was tied for No. 15 with Biff Jones at 20 wins heading into the year then passed out five coaches along the way, including Bill Arnsparger.
Should Kelly win every regular season game on the 2025 schedule, he would rank seventh with 41 wins behind No. 6 Paul Dietzel (46) and No. 5 Nick Saban (48). If LSU makes it to the SEC championship or the College Football Playoffs, the total has a potential increase of four or five.
Charles McClendon still holds the all-time wins record with 135, accumulated from 1962-1979. He is followed by Les Miles (114), Bernie Moore (83), and Orgeron (51).
