Ranking newest Oregon Ducks among best transfers in Dan Lanning era

Dan Lanning is entering his fourth year as the head coach of the Oregon Ducks, and while we’ve seen that he is a great coach with a ton of success on the field, it’s become incredibly apparent that he is just as good off of the field when it comes to recruiting and working the transfer portal.

A lot of credit goes to Chief of Staff Marshal Malchow as well, with the roster continually bringing in some of the best players in the nations each offseason to integrate into the program and bring high-level play to Eugene. Over the years, we’ve seen Oregon legends like Bo Nix, Bucky Irving, Christian Gonzalez, Tez Johnson, and many others become Ducks through the transfer portal.

So far this year, the Ducks have added 9 players via the portal, most of whom are expected to occupy starting roles in 2025. From Purdue’s Dillon Thieneman to Tulane’s Makhi Hughes and beyond, Oregon’s transfer portal work has been elite over the past month.

So where do these guys rank among the best Oregon transfers during the Lanning era? There are two ways to look at it. For starters, you can take into account the 247Sports transfer portal rankings. However, those rankings don’t always match what we see play out on the field. For instance, Bo Nix was a three-star prospect in the portal, but he finished his college career as a Heisman Trophy finalist in New York.

For good measure, I added my own rankings based on how good each player ended up being in Eugene.

Let’s take a look at the 25 best transfers that the Ducks have landed since Lanning has been here, and see where the newest additions land:
